Ditching Christmas family gatherings in favour of a last-minute break to somewhere fabulous can be appealing, but often the spanner in the works comes at the airport when you realise millions of others have had the same idea.

For one lucky buyer, however, travel delays and airport queues could soon be a thing of the past, as this six-bedroom farmhouse in Devon has been listed for sale with its own runway and hangar.

A 300-metre runway created by the current owners is situated beside the purpose-built hangar — where helicopters can land.

"It is rare that an applicant's opening question is: 'what's the maximum wingspan the aircraft hangar will accommodate?'" says Sam Froud of Seddons the estate agents who are marketing the property.

Located between Exmoor and Dartmoor National parks, Woodscombe Farm is set in the centre of its 58 acres — much of which is currently let out for grazing but has been used by previous owners for growing crops and hosting active clay shoots.

The main house has been renovated recently to include a new master bedroom suite and a kitchen extension. A feature fireplace and wood-burning stove are cosy, rustic touches in the sitting room while, across the hallway, a formal dining room looks out over the enclosed front gardens. Perfect for entertaining.

A bright, open-plan kitchen with a central island is connected to a south-facing garden room that overlooks two large ponds.

Upstairs are five bedrooms, two bathrooms and the new en suite master bedroom which looks out on three sides over unspoilt Devon countryside.

Separate living space is found in a converted barn. With its own garden and patio, the single-storey, two-bedroom former barn makes for an ideal rental opportunity — or provides plenty of space for guests.

A second barn — currently four stables, a tack room and store room — is thought to have planning in place for a conversion as permission was granted at the same time as the first. And further holiday-let potential is to be found in a two-bedroom static caravan set in its own garden area. There are also interlinking farm buildings currently used as a cattle barn, storage and stabling.

"Much of the interest so far has come from buyers coming out of the London and Home Counties area," says Froud, "We've had enquiries from people looking to establish a holiday letting business, someone with an equestrian interest and a person looking to run a smallholding."

The market town of Tiverton is approximately eight miles away. For those commuting to London, it's under an hour by plane. Or, for those less audacious, direct train services run from Tiverton Parkway railway station to Paddington and take just over two hours.

Woodscombe Farm is for sale for £1.75million, through Seddons.
